PIERRE, S.D.–The South Dakota Public Utilities Commission has given a wind developer more time to install noise controls on a project in Codington and Grant counties in the northeast part of the state.

Crowned Ridge asked for the waiver last month after they said weather prevented them from modifying blades before they are installed. The company had faced a $75,000 a day penalty for missing their deadline.

Commissioner Chris Nelson was not happy with the process……

Nelson says the waiver will address the overall issue…..

The PUC approved a waiver until September 15th to allow the company to finish the project, which will produce about 300 megawatts of electricity.
