WATERTOWN, S.D.–As electric vehicles..or EV’s….become more common on the highways across South Dakota, thoughts turn to charging stations that will help keep the wheels on those EV’s turning.

Chris Nelson is a South Dakota Public Utilities Commissioner….

Nelson tells KWAT News the federal government and the private sector will need to partner in the rollout of EV charging stations….

EV charging stations across the country could put a fragile electric grid in a bad spot–especially during times of peak demand……

The South Dakota DOT says there are about 1,400 registered EV’s in the state (only North Dakota and Wyoming have fewer), with 45 public charging stations.
