One dead, three injured in crash on Interstate 29

FLANDREAU, S.D. – One person died and three others were injured in a two-vehicle crash Monday morning eight miles west of Flandreau.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol says a pickup, pulling an enclosed trailer, was northbound on Interstate 29 near mile marker 114 when the vehicle hit a patch of ice. The vehicle and trailer slid through the median and collided with a car that was southbound on Interstate 29.

The 75-year-old man driving the car died at the scene. The 76-year-old female passenger sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a Sioux Falls hospital. Both were wearing seat belts.

Two male passengers in the pickup were injured. One sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a Sioux Falls hospital. The other passenger received minor injuries and was taken to the Flandreau hospital.

Names of those involved were not released.
