WATERTOWN, S.D.–The Watertown City Council has locked up $20 million dollars to build a new two-sheet ice arena.

That money will come from sales tax revenue bonds paid back over a 30 year period.

But private fundraising for the arena is still continuing….

Watertown Mayor Ried Holien tells KWAT News that private donations will be used to help cover the cost of some of the “add ons” that are built into the new arena…

Earlier this year, the Watertown Hockey Association and Watertown Figure Skate Club pledged a combined $2.75 million in monetary and in-kind donations toward the project.

The ice arena will be built along Willow Creek Drive north of Hobby Lobby.

Holien says architectual designs will be presented to the public before the end of the year, with groundbreaking occurring next spring.
