BROOKINGS, S.D.–A former Watertown High School teacher and coach is accused of raping a 15-year-old student. It allegedly happened in Brookings.

Thirty-two-year-old Jordan Bakken of Watertown is facing several charges and has resigned from the school district.

According to court records, Bakken coached the alleged victim in soccer and debate.

Brookings County States Attorney Dan Nelson says Bakken is charged with Fourth Degree Rape, Solicitation of a Minor, and Sexual Contact with a Child Under the Age of 18 by Someone in a Position of Authority.

Nelson says the matter will go before a Brookings County Grand Jury in the coming days.

The alleged crimes took place in Brookings earlier this month.

At a Monday court appearance, bond was set at $40,000 cash-only. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for February 12th.

That will not be needed if a Grand Jury indictment is issued.
