FLORENCE, S.D.–Two Florence residents are in custody after local and federal authorities descended on a home there Thursday to execute a search warrant for illegal firearms, and ended up finding homemade bombs.

The search warrant at 321 Flyer Drive began just after 8 a.m.

When homemade explosive devices and evidence of a possible explosive manufacturing operation was uncovered, the Codington County Sheriff’s Office called in the FBI, the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms,  and the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation.

Some homes in the area were temporarily evacuated as a precaution and the explosive devices were disposed of by federal authorities.

During the search warrant, deputies located several illegal firearms and drugs.

Arrested were 39 year-old Christopher Gamble and 28 year-old Katelyn Gamble, who lived at the home.

They face multiple charges related to explosives, guns, drugs, and the abuse or neglect of a child, and were booked into the Codington County Detention Center.

Sheriff Howell states, “being able to get these illegal explosive devices, firearms, and drugs off the street wouldn’t have happened without the assistance and great cooperation we have with the assisting agencies and community”.
