YANKTON, S.D.–Earlier this week, the Lake Traverse Reservation became the fifth Indian Reservation in the state to ban Governor Noem from its land, and more bans under consideration.

Yankton Sioux Tribal Chair Ryan Cournoyer says he believes Noem’s comments are irresponsible, going against collaboration. He is planning an emergency meeting of the council, saying, “we are looking to join with the tribal nations of South Dakota against her false allegations of tribal leaders working with drug cartels.”

Oglala Sioux Tribal Council Member Tyler Yellow Boy appreciates the support of other nations.

Chase Iron Eyes with the Lakota Law Project said a tribe has nothing to lose by banishing Noem.

In a recent interview with KWAT News Director Mike Tanner, Governor Noem talked about the drug issue on South Dakota’s reservations….

Tribal councils that have voted to ban Governor Noem from their Reservation are the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate, the Oglala Sioux Tribe, the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, the Rosebud Sioux Tribe, and the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe.
