Minnesota pork plant could close, laying off more than 1,000 people

April 12, 2023

WINDOM, Minn.–Minnesota could shut down and lay off over a thousand people, unless a new owner is found soon.

Canada-based HyLife, which bought 75 percent ownership in 2020 from Taylor Corporation in Mankato, has filed notice with the state that its efforts to turn the business around have been unsuccessful.

The company cites inflation pressure, high grain costs, foreign exchange rates and the Windom plant’s operational losses.

None of the workers are represented by a union. Layoffs reportedly could begin as early as April 17th.
