WATERTOWN, S.D.–Buckle up for what could be a very interesting weekend of  weather across central and eastern South Dakota.

Forecasters say some locations will see more than a foot of snow, winds will gust over 50 miles an hour…and blizzard conditions are a distinct possibility.

Watertown is forecast to see 10 to 18 inches of snow, making it, by far, the biggest snow event of the season.

Travis Tarver is a forecaster at the National Weather Service office in Aberdeen…..

A Winter Storm Watch has already been posted for all of central and eastern South Dakota from Saturday night through Monday night…

Tarver say travel is expected to become extremely difficult…if not impossible….especially by Sunday.

The extreme northeast corner of South Dakota was already blanketed with a fresh coating of snow this (Friday) morning.

Tarver says areas between U.S. Highway 12 and the North Dakota border saw snow amounts of between 2 and 5 inches Thursday.

Aberdeen checked in with 4.3 inches of new snow. Watertown got only a trace.
