Laker guys and girls open season at home this weekend

WATERTOWN, S.D. (GoWatertown.net) — Hockey season is back in South Dakota and the Watertown Lakers are preparing for the new season.

The Laker girls finished last season with a regular-season record of 5-9-2 and finished sixth in the state tournament.  Curt Kranz takes over coaching duties this season from Alex Purdy.  Kranz is a familiar name as he has previously coached and played for the Lakers.  He says friends got him into hockey:

The Laker gals open their season at home this weekend against Mitchell on Saturday and the defending champion Aberdeen on Sunday:

The Laker guys finished 2021 with a record of 5-17.  Coach Evan Witt says big picture, last year was about building a foundation:

The guys also open at home Saturday against Mitchell and face Sioux Falls One December 3rd and Oahe December 4th:

Girls at 4:30 p.m. and the guys at 8:30 p.m. at Maas Ice Arena.  Due to coverage of South Dakota football, the girls game will be broadcast on New Country KS93 and the boys on 1480 KSDR.
