WASHINGTON, D.C.–South Dakota Congressman Dusty Johnson helped amend a bill in Congress that could have cost airports in Watertown and Pierre more than four-million dollars over the next ten years.

The Securing Growth and Robust Leadership in American Aviation Act would have charged extensive new fees to rural passenger airports for participation in the Essential Air Service (EAS) program. Johnson passed an amendment protecting the most remote airports from the higher fees…

Johnson says aviation is an extension of that…

Johnson says he understands opposition to his amendment…

The Act reauthorizes the Federal Aviation Administration and it’s associated programs. If not amended by Johnson, the measure would have placed a five-percent funding burden on local and state governments enrolled in the E-A-S program.
