High school hockey team gets okay to wear jerseys honoring injured police officer

BROOKLYN CENTER, Minn.–The Minnesota State High School League will allow Waseca High School hockey teams to wear a patch honoring wounded police Officer Arik Matson.
The MSHSL denied a request from the boy’s hockey teams who wanted to wear jerseys with the words “Waseca Police” and Matson’s badge number on the front and his name on the back. The league said the jerseys didn’t meet regulations. The new jersey features a regulation-sized patch with Matson’s badge number, 222.
Officer Matson was shot in the head Jan. 6 and has been making progress in his recovery. He recently underwent reconstructive surgery.
