WATERTOWN, S.D.–Watertown Fire Rescue spent nearly four hours battling a grass fire west of town on Tuesday.

The initial call, which came in just after 3:30, was a report of a baler on fire on 449th Avenue.

By the time they got there, the fire had spread into a grass field and was rapidly heading toward homes and other buildings.

The flames were being pushed by a west wind gusting over 30 miles an hour.

The first fire crews to arrive began to extinguish the leading edge of the fire.

By the time all the flames were out, about 50 acres of pasture and grassland were burned.

There were no injuries.
