Grass fire at Oakwood Lakes State Park

BROOKINGS, S.D.–It’s an odd time of the year in South Dakota. While some areas deal with flooding, other areas are concerned about dry conditions and a high fire danger.
On Thursday afternoon, fire departments from Bruce, Estelline, Arlington, Badger and Volga were called to a grass fire at Oakwood Lakes State Park.
The Brookings County Sheriff’s Department says a controlled burn had occurred at the fire location a week earlier, and high winds caused the fire to reignite.
Red Flag Warnings have been posted this week for parts of South Dakota, which is indicative of the dry conditions and high fire danger that exists.
