GRANITE FALLS, Minn. – A Granite Falls man is pleading guilty to shooting a Willmar police officer during the search of a home in April.

According to Yellow Medicine County prosecutors, 26-year-old William Schindler will be sentenced Friday for attempted murder of a peace officer.

The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension said members of a drug and gang task force were executing a search warrant when someone inside the home started shooting.

Officers fired back and Willmar Officer Jason Hay was hit by the crossfire. Hay was treated at a hospital.

Authorities were trying to arrest Schindler on felony warrants. He was taken into custody after a 90-minute standoff.
