Governor Kristi Noem delivers budget speech to state lawmakers  (Audio)

WATERTOWN, S.D.–Governor Kristi Noem delivered her budget speech to South Dakota lawmakers in Pierre today (Tuesday).

The governor boldly proclaimed that South Dakota, “has the strongest economy in America.”

Noem says the state has no personal income tax, no business tax, and she pledged no tax increases for the coming year.

She says during the pandemic, South Dakota stood apart from the rest of the country with its, “open for business” philosophy…

The governor is proposing pay increases for state workers, teachers and healthcare providers…

And beyond that, she wants to go even further for Corrections Department employees…

And Governor Noem is also recommending increased funding for tourism marketing…

Budget decisions will be made by lawmakers during the 97th South Dakota legislative session that begins January 11th.
