WATERTOWN, S.D.–The South Dakota Public Utilities Commission this week unanimously rejected an application from Summer Carbon Solutions to build a carbon dioxide pipeline that would angle through the state.

The pipeline route, as proposed, would have violated setback ordinances in the counties of Brown, Spink, McPherson and Minnehaha.

More than 30 Midwest ethanol plants would capture CO2 from their facilities and pipe the product to an underground storage site in North Dakota.
