Fire destroys western Minnesota grain elevator

HAWLEY, Minn.– A major overnight fire in Hawley, Minnesota. After several hours, it was brought under control.

Seventeen fire departments from as far away as Moorhead and Detroit Lakes responded to the call.

Hawley Police Chief Joe Backlund says there was initial concern that embers from the large blaze would spread to other buildings. Backlund says he believes the Hawley Elevator is leased and mostly used by one farmer.

The fire was reported before midnight by a passing BNSF Railway crew. No injuries have been reported.
