WATERTOWN, S.D.—The 2019-20 academic year will go down as maybe the most unique in South Dakota history.

Governor Kristi Noem announced Monday that all K-12 classrooms in the state will be closed for the rest of the school year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

KWAT News asked Watertown School District Superintendent Dr. Jeff Danielsen (pictured) if that was expected, given the continuing increase in coronavirus cases around the country….

Commencement ceremonies for the Class of 2020 were scheduled for May 24th. That’s off too, but Danielsen says they’re mulling over some creative options that would still give the senior class a proper send off….

Watertown and the state’s other school districts will use distance learning to finish out the current school year.
