Arrest made by Sioux Falls police goes viral, NAACP investigating

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.– A video of an arrest made last week by the Sioux Falls Police Department has gone viral on social media, and some are now calling for justice.

On March 26, a family member of Daniel Bettelyoun posted his arrest on Facebook. Police say what isn’t shown in the video is Bettelyoun running away from police to his mother’s apartment before he resisted arrest.

In the video, you can see police using force while trying to detain Bettelyoun, striking and tasing him. That’s because Bettelyoun was hiding his arm.

Sam Clemens, public information officer for the Sioux Falls Police Department, said, “The officer doesn’t know for what purpose it may be. We’ve had people that have tried to reach for different weapons.”

The NAACP received notice of the video and released in a statement that they have launched an internal investigation, which they said they do with all reports, and they’ve been working closely with Bettelyoun’s family and the police.
