Yankton man charged in fentanyl overdose death of teenage girl

YANKTON, S.D.–An 18-year-old Yankton man has been arrested and indicted after a 15-year-old girl was found deceased in her bedroom from a fentanyl overdose.
The girl was from rural Clay County and was found deceased on December 23, 2023.
According to South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley, Evan Nelson was indicted Monday by a Yankton County Grand Jury on three felony counts. He was arrested Tuesday and is being held on a $500,000 cash-only bond.
The charges include one count of Distribution of a Controlled Substance to a Minor Resulting in Death, one count of Distribution of a Controlled Substance to a Minor, and one count of Unauthorized Possession of a Controlled Substance.
