ABERDEEN, S.D.—The weather is going to take a turn for the worse this weekend, and it will likely impact millions of travelers by vehicle and air who are attempting to make their way home from Thanksgiving.

A major winter storm will impact the upper Midwest beginning Friday.

National Weather Service forecaster Aaron Dorn says it could begin as freezing rain, perhaps for a duration of 12 to 18 hours, icing up road surfaces.

By Friday night, the precipitation changes to snow, and begins to pile up…

Because of that, the Weather Service has posted many winter weather watches and warnings….

The worst of the worst weather is expected in west river South Dakota, where a Blizzard Warning has been posted. They could see 8 to 14 inches of snow, wind gusts to 65 miles an hour, and conditions that will likely lead to highway closures and no moving traffic.
