While other cities pass mask mandates, Watertown continues to “strongly encourage” them  (Audio)

WATERTOWN,, S.D.–A growing number of South Dakota cities have passed face mask mandates in recent weeks, but Watertown is not among them.

The city council defeated a mandate at their meeting last week on a 5-4 vote. They followed up that vote by unanimously approving a resolution that strong encourages masks to be worn.

The mayor says there are various reasons why some people cannot wear a mask…

There’s the potential that another vote on a mask mandate could be taken at the next council meeting, on December 7th.

Last night, the Fort Pierre City Council, on a 5-1 vote, passes a resolution “strongly encouraging” face masks. 

In Mitchell, the city council voted 5-3 to continue its mask mandate.
