WATERTOWN, S.D.–This week’s Watertown City Council meeting featured discussion on a new ice arena, and a new city hall, and if the city can afford to do one of the projects, or both of them.

The city is buying the Wells Fargo Bank building just west of the current City Hall, with the idea of making it their new home. The purchase price is $1.3 million, but estimates are that remodeling it for a city hall would cost an additional $2.3 million.

Meanwhile, a new two sheet ice arena could cost $15 million or more.

Councilman Ried Holien…

Holien says you might be able to wait on the City Hall project, but an ice arena seems to be more urgent…

Councilman Michael Heuer talked about the need for a new City Hall….

Finally, Mayor Sarah Caron says the city CAN do both projects…

Look for more discussion on these topics at the council’s next meeting later this month.
