WEDNESDAY UPDATE: South Dakota COVID-19 cases climb over 1,000; two counties have reported 85-percent of all cases statewide

PIERRE, S.D.—The number of COVID-19 infections in South Dakota has climbed over 1,000.

The State Health Department reported 180 new cases Wednesday, pushing the cumulative total to 1,168.

Of the 180 new cases, 176 of them were reported in the counties of Lincoln and Minnehaha. Those two counties make up 85-percent of the total number of cases statewide.

Other counties reporting new cases Wednesday were Brown, McCook, Sanborn and Walworth.

The Health Department says 329 people have recovered from the virus. That’s 68 more than Tuesday.

A total of 51 people have required hospitalization. Six deaths have been attributed to the virus.
