WBB: Jacks clinch outright title with win over Roos

BROOKINGS, S.D. (GoJacks.com) — No. 22/24 South Dakota State women’s basketball won its 20th game of the season in a 73-53 route Kansas City Friday night at Frost Arena. With the win, the Jackrabbits secured the outright Summit League Regular Season Title.

Leading the Jacks was Paiton Burckhard and Tylee Irwin, who each scored 19 points and combined for eight rebounds. Mesa Byom scored nine points in seven minutes played as Lindsey Theuninck, Haley Greer and Madysen Vlastuin each scored six points. Theuninck and Vlastuin each added four rebounds while Greer recorded three boards and four assists. Kallie Theisen scored three points, recorded eight rebounds and two assists. Regan Nesheim added four rebounds.

No. 22/24 South Dakota State women’s basketball finished the regular season undefeated at home and undefeated in Summit League play after defeating Kansas City 72-66 Saturday night.

Paiton Burckhard scored a season-high 24 points, grabbed three rebounds and dished two assists. Tylee Irwin finished with 17 points, six rebounds and two assists while Madysen Vlastuin rounded out the double digit scorers, scoring a career-best 11 points on a 4-of-5 performance from the field. Lindsey Theuninck recorded six rebounds and five assists and Haley Greer finished with six points, four rebounds and four assists. Kallie Theisen added seven points, three rebounds and two steals.

The Jacks improved to 21-2 and 14-0 in conference play. State shot 44.4 percent from the field, outrebounded Kansas City 31-24 and made 16 of their 18 free throw attempts.

The Jackrabbits will prepare for The 2021 Summit League Women’s Basketball Championship taking place March 6-9 at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, S.D. Seeding and game times will be announced at the conclusion of all Summit League games this weekend.
