Waubay man sentenced for escaping from custody

December 5, 2023

SIOUX FALLS – United States Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell says a Waubay man convicted of Escape from Custody has been sentenced.

Thirty two year-old Levi Ambrose Locke was sentenced to nine months in federal prison, followed by two years of supervised release.

Locke was indicted by a federal grand jury in May of 2023. He pleaded guilty on August 25th.

The conviction stemmed from an incident on April 13th when Locke was in the custody of the Bureau of Prisons at Dismas Charities, an institutional facility located in Sioux Falls.

Locke was at Dismas Charities based on a felony conviction. On April 13th, Locke left Dismas Charities to go work his shift at his place of employment, but instead of going to work, Locke escaped and did not return to the facility that same day as required.

Locke was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service to begin serving his sentence.
