Watertown senior legion season ends, junior legion makes state tournament

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (GoWatertown.net) — Watertown Post 17 was swept by Sioux Falls East in the Class A Super Regionals over the weekend.
Game one Friday was an 11-1 loss for the purple and gold called in the 6th inning due to the 10-run rule. Drew Denzer, Braedon Zaug, Kolby Lacher, and Will Engstrom each had one of Watertown’s four hits. Andrew Czech got the start on the hill but struggled to find his stuff and was pulled after two thirds of an inning. Jackson Maag pitched four and two-thirds on the hill allowing six hits, seven runs, fanning three, and giving out four free passes.
Watertown only managed two hits in game two Saturday in a 5-0 loss. Ryan Roby and Zaug each put down one hit. Jerod Cyrus pitched six strong innings allowing four hits, five runs, walking four and striking out three.

Post 17 will graduate four seniors, Andrew Czech, Braedon Zaug, Trevon Rawdon, and Ben Althoff.

The Class A Senior bracket will look like this….
Brookings is the one seed after knocking off Sturgis 9-5 and 8-5 and will face the eight seed Pierre in the opening round of the tournament. Post 8 knocked off the defending Class A Champion Renner 6-4 and 9-5.
Mitchell is the three seed and ended the year of Aberdeen 4-2 and 10-2. They will face Rapid City Post 320 who defeated Sioux Falls West 12-2 and 11-5.
Sioux Falls East will be be the number five seed and face Brandon Valley who defeated Spearfish 7-2 and 7-0. Post 131 earned the number four seed.
The final game of the opening round will see the host Rapid City Post 22, the two seed, take on Harrisburg who ended the year of Yankton 2-0 and 7-6.
Watertown Junior Legion swept Yankton in their Class A Super Regional best of three series this past weekend at Watertown Stadium. Scores of 6-5 and 13-0.
Watertown JL (33-13) will now head to the Class A Junior Legion State Tournament July 28th through the 30th in Sioux Falls. Watertown will play in the Stars Pool and face Sioux Falls East on Thursday at 2:30 p.m., Brandon Valley at noon on Friday and Renner on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
