WATERTOWN, S.D.–Gasoline prices have dipped below $3.00 a gallon in South Dakota to begin the new year.

Triple A reports the statewide average for regular unleaded is $2.91 a gallon this morning.

That’s down 23 cents a gallon from a month ago.

A number of stations in Watertown dropped their price to $2.83 a gallon over the weekend.

Nationally, the average price is $3.10 a gallon, although like South Dakota, a number of other states have dropped below $3.00 a gallon.

The cheapest gas can be found in Texas and Mississippi, both of whom have statewide averages of $2.65 a gallon.
