WATERTOWN, S.D.–Turnover is nothing new for school districts this time of year.

Teachers, coaches, paraprofessionals and others turn in resignations for various reasons.

In some cases it’s retirement, choosing a fresh start in a new school district, or finding a new occupation altogether.

Nationally, more teachers have been leaving the profession since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, citing burnout.

On Monday night, the Watertown School Board accepted the resignations of 17 employees.

School Board member Jean Moulton reflected on what she says is a, “serious problem”…..

Moulton says the school board needs to look at new ways of doing business in order to retain good people….

The recently announced retirements in the Watertown School District include Assistant Superintendent Darrell Stacey and High School Principal Brad Brandsrud, both of whom leave district effective June 30th.
