WATERTOWN, S.D.–Watertown has a limit of three medical marijuana dispensaries that will be able to do business in the city, but there may not be that many.

Today (Monday) is the deadline for interested parties to submit their applications to the city and the state.

As of Friday, Watertown City Attorney Matt Roby said just one application had been turned in. Roby would not release any information about that applicant.

The application fee to sell medical marijuana in Watertown is $25,000, with an annual renewal fee of that same amount.

South Dakota voters approved both medical and adult-use marijuana in November 2020, however the adult-use ballot question that was approved is being challenged before the South Dakota Supreme Court over its constitutionality .
