Watertown Post 17 takes two from Aberdeen

WATERTOWN, S.D. (GoWatertown.net) – Watertown Post 17 would sweep the night of baseball action against the Aberdeen Smittys Thursday night.

Game one was a 10-5 victory for the purple and gold. The Smittys put a four-spot on the board in the first and one in the second. Watertown would send runs across the place in six of the seven innings. Jerod Cyrus would have a two-hit, two-RBI night, Drew Denzer had three hits and knocked in one run. Kaden Karst pitched five innings, allowing eight hits, five runs, walking two, and punching out three.

Watertown would hold on to a 3-2 win in game two of the night. Post 17 knocked all three of the runs in the first inning. The Smittys would be held scoreless until the sixth when they sent two across the plate. Will Engstrom threw the complete game, going seven innings while allowing five runs, two hits, two walks, and struck out seven.

Watertown improves to 6-9 and will be off this weekend for graduation weekend and will travel to Sioux Falls West on June 1st for a 5 and 7 p.m. first pitch.

Junior Legion would split with Aberdeen taking game one 8-7 but falling in game two 6-3. Post 17 Junior Legion moves to 9-4 and will face Sioux Falls West on June 1st at 5 and 7 p.m. at Watertown Stadium.
