Watertown Post 17 has a 3-1 weekend

WATERTOWN, S.D. (GoWatertown.net) — Watertown Post 17 would gather 36 runs en route to a 3-1 weekend showing.

In game one Friday at Mitchell Post 18, Watertown fell behind early and couldn’t come back in an 11-5 loss. Mason Evans would lead the way for the purple and gold going three for four at the plate and two RBI’s. Peyton Johnston would collect one hit and one RBI. Lexan Thorson started the game on the hill for Post 17, allowing four hits and eight runs over four innings, striking out three. Kade Russell threw two innings in relief.

In game two Friday at Mitchell, Post 17 would grab the lead late for an 8-6 victory over Mitchell. Trailing 4-3 in the top of the seventh, Peyton Johnston doubled to send in three runs. Dawson Schmidt would be the winning pitcher for Watertown, allowing three hits and two runs over two innings, striking out two and walking one.

Watertown Post 17 would rack up a total of 23 runs on Sunday on their way to two wins over Yankton Post 12.

Game one was a 12-2 win. Kale Stevenson, Braxton Lacher, Dawson Schmidt and Mason Morris would collect two RBI’s each. Easton Thury took the win on the hill for Watertown as he went six innings, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out six.

Game two would go down as an 11-7 win for Watertown. With the game tied at seven in the top of the sixth, Kale Stevenson would double, scoring one. Watertown would rack up nine hits on the day. Evan Falconer and Kale Stevenson each contributed three hits. Jerod Cyrus pitched Watertown to victory as he struck out five, allowing no hits and zero runs over two innings.

Watertown Post 17 (8-6) travels to Harrisburg on Tuesday for a doubleheader at 5 and 7 p.m.
