Watertown Police Department releases 2019 annual report

WATERTOWN, S.D.–The Watertown Police Department responded to 24,676 calls for service last year. That’s up 12 percent from the previous year and up nine percent from the five year average.

The department’s 2019 annual report shows a 27-percent decrease in drug arrests. Marijuana and meth continue to be the drugs of choice in Watertown and South Dakota.

Police Chief Lee McPeek says traffic citations were up 12-percent last year from 2018. Just over 1,500 traffic tickets and nearly 5,000 warning citations were written.
