Watertown police arrest three men in stolen check scheme

WATERTOWN, S.D.–Watertown police arrested three Florida men in connection with a stolen check scheme.

It happened last week when officers were called to the 800-block of 35th Street Circle Southeast on a report of a suspicious vehicle.

During a search of the vehicle, police found around 100 stolen checks, along with tools used to retrieve the checks from payment drop boxes.

The total value of the checks that had been stolen in Sioux Falls and Brookings was more than $49,000.

The three suspects are identified as 35 year-old Lazaro Gonzalez Cubilla, 31 year-old Jesus Gonzalez and 34 year-old Osley Hernandez.

They’re charged with Possession of Stolen Property, Possession of Burglary Tools, Possession of a Forged Instrument, and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

All three men have since bonded out of jail.
