WATERTOWN, S.D.—Watertown police arrested a man in the downtown area early Sunday morning following a report of gunshots being heard.

Officers were dispatched to the 100 block of South Maple at 3:23 a.m.

Their investigation determined 26 year-old Matthew Wolf of Watertown had fired two shots at his own vehicle.

After firing the shots, Wolf went back inside his apartment. Officers spent about two hours trying to make contact with him. The apartment building was evacuated, and a SWAT team was called in to negotiate with the suspect.

Wolf was eventually taken into custody without incident.

He’s charged with Reckless Discharge of a Firearm and Possession of a Firearm While Intoxicated—both Class One Misdemeanors.
