WATERTOWN, S.D.–The Watertown Planning Commission is recommending the city council reject a proposed Planned Unit Development (PUD) in the 1000-block of South Lake Drive.

Developer Erik Skott submitted a petition to rezone four lots from their current designation of R-1 Single Family Residential to a Planned Unit Development that would include dozens of condos and rental properties.

The development was debated during Thursday’s Planning Commission meeting. Commissioners Todd Kays and Liam Culhane were supportive of Skott’s plans…

But other Planning Commissioners were not nearly as receptive of the idea, including Diana Ford and Rhonda Dargatz-Johnson….

Ford and Dargatz-Johnson did in fact vote “no” on the development, along with Commissioners Bonnie Oletzke and Jason Hanson.

Commissioners Kays, Culhane and Jeff Brink voted “yes,” meaning the PUD failed on a 4-3 vote.

A final decision on the fate of the project will come from the city council.
