WATERTOWN, S.D.–Any questions over which commercial airline would serve Watertown for the next few years were answered earlier this month when the U.S. DOT announced Denver
Air Connection was awarded a two year contract to provide federally-subsidized flights from Watertown to Denver and Chicago.
Local officlals had been kicking around the idea of asking the DOT if they’d consider a Watertown to Minneapolis St. Paul route.
In the end, Watertown City Manager Amanda Mack said the status quo fit the city best, because for many travelers, the Twin Cities is a “driveable” distance.
She went through a similar situation in her previous stop in Spencer, Iowa…
A few weeks ago, the city hired Airport Strategy and Marketing, or ASM, to be the marketing consultant for Watertown Regional Airport.
Their mission is simple–to get more people to use the airport and fly in and out of Watertown….
Denver Air’s new contract to serve Watertown runs thru May 31, 2025.
Through the first quarter of 2023, there were 1,693 passenger enplanements to Denver, and 1,187 to Chicago.
