Watertown man one of eight charged with organized street racing in Sioux Falls  (Audio)

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.–They’re working to get ahead of street racers before they start their engines again.

SIoux Falls Police announced charges against nine people involved in a large, organized street race that took place in northern Sioux Falls in October.

Eight have either turned themselves in or were brought into custody, with four men from Sioux Falls, and others from Watertown, Valley Springs, Harrisburg and Inwood, Iowa.

Lieutenant Andrew Siebenborn of the Traffic Division says investigators have worked months piecing things together…

Seinbenborn says they feel fortunate no one was seriously injured or killed in the activity.

Nine of the racing participants were identified and warrants were issued for:

  • Drag Racing on a Highway
  • Reckless Driving
  • Exhibition Driving
  • Gambling
  • Second Degree Intentional Damage to Property

The warrant carries a $1,000 cash bond. Arrests have been made for eight of the participants. Those arrested are:

Daniel Lee Johnson, a 32-year-old man from Sioux Falls

Jamis Harry Jurgens, a 43-year-old man from Watertown

Jeremy Arthur Kannas, a 32-year-old man from Valley Springs, SD

Cole Dean Meendering, a 26-year-old man from Inwood, IA

Matthew Scott Moen, a 35-year-old man from Harrisburg

Chase Avery Schraeder, a 35-year-old man from Sioux Falls

Nathan Allen Stoops, a 35-year-old man from Sioux Falls

Eric Wayne Taylor, a 35-year-old man from Sioux Falls
