WATERTOWN, S.D.—A Watertown man was arrested and faces several charges after Codington County deputies were called to the area of 461st Avenue and U.S. Highway 212 near Watertown early this (Wednesday) morning.

They were responding to a report of a man at a residence who had been knocking on the door, claiming someone ran him off the highway.

The man eventually left the scene in a vehicle.

Responding deputies spotted a vehicle matching the description of one the man drove away in that had been parked at a nearby residence.

Sheriff’s Sergeant Brent Solum says it was apparent the vehicle had been backed into a garage door, causing severe damage to the door and the vehicle, and that the suspect was under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.

Police arrested 40 year-old Jason Sperry of Watertown on charges of First Degree Burglary, Intentional Damage to Property, Ingestion of a Controlled Substance, Third Offense DUI, Resisting Arrest and Reckless Driving.

Sperry was already on parole for ingesting a controlled substance.

He was booked into the Codington County Detention Center, where he was uncooperative with jail staff.

He’s being held on $5,000 cash only bond.
