WATERTOWN, S.D.—A Watertown man was arrested Saturday night following a high-speed chase from Codington into Hamlin County, before ending in Arlington.

The pursuit began after Watertown police were called to a domestic disturbance in the 3300 block of 11th Avenue Southwest.

That’s where a woman had been attacked with a knife. Her daughter, who was also threatened with the knife, made the 911 call.

The suspect, 38 year-old Javier Nieves of Watertown, was spotted by a Highway Patrolman driving out of Watertown.

Nieves fled during an attempted traffic stop and led authorities on a chase southbound on Highway 81 that ended in Arlington, where he was arrested.

Nieves faces charges of Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Eluding, Child Abuse, Interference With Emergency Communications, and various traffic related offenses.

His bond was set at $50,000 cash.

The woman attacked with the knife was taken to the hospital to receive medical attention.
