Watertown looking for volunteers to serve on city boards
November 25, 2024
WATERTOWN, SD— The City of Watertown is encouraging residents to get involved in shaping the community by applying for open positions on city boards and committees.
Opportunities are available on several boards, including the Planning Commission/Board of Adjustment, Parks, Recreation & Forestry Board, Airport Board, Animal Control Board, Library Board, Municipal Utilities Board, and the Mayor’s Committee for People with Disabilities.
Serving on a board or committee is a great way to play an active role in decisions that affect the city. Whether it’s improving parks, guiding infrastructure projects, or advocating for accessibility, volunteers make an impact.
Applications are being accepted as positions become available, with reviews conducted by the Mayor and advisors. Appointments are finalized with City Council approval. The city’s goal is to fill positions in a timely manner to keep boards running effectively.
“We want residents to feel empowered to contribute their skills and ideas,” said Mayor Ried Holien. “These boards and committees are vital to the success of our community, and we’re excited to welcome new members.”
