Watertown JL ready for state tournament

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (GoWatertown.net) – The Class A Junior Legion Tournament beings today in Sioux Falls.

Watertown JL will enter the tournament after knocking off Yankton twice in the super regionals this past weekend at Watertown Stadium. Coach Travis Schmidt says the boys had some nerves during those games:

Watertown JL finished the year 33-13. Coach Schmidt says he was blessed to have a competitive squad this season:

The Class A JL Tournament has a different format, conducting pool play this season. The purple and gold will play in the stars pool along with Sioux Falls East, Renner, and Brandon Valley. Coach Schmidt says with pool play, it’s a one-game approach:

Watertown will face Sioux Falls East to begin pool play at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, then face Brandon Valley at noon on Friday and wrap against Renner on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.

The top two teams in the stars and stripes pool will advance to championship Sunday. The Class A South Dakota Junior Legion Tournament runs through July 31st at Harmadon Park, field one.
