WATERTOWN, S.D.–Watertown Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire overnight.

The fire call to 610 Second Street Southeast came in just after one o’clock this morning.

The initial call was for a vehicle fire, but upon arrival, the fire had already spread to an unattached garage and a home.

A resident of the home was working in the garage minutes prior to the start of the fire. There was considerable fuel load in the garage, including gas cans, buckets of oil, and other automotive parts that contributed to the initial rapid spread of the fire.

Crews initially attacked the exterior of the home, extinguishing that fire, followed by the garage and the vehicle.

The exterior of the home suffered major damage. The single stall garage was a total loss.

There were no injuries. Fire crews were on the scene for about two hours.
