Watertown Fire Rescue responds to pair of grass fires

WATERTOWN, S.D.–Watertown Fire Rescue responded to a pair of grass fires on Friday.

The first call came a little after 3:30 Friday afternoon of a grass fire on Highway 20 near the National Guard Readiness Center.

Crews arrived to find several small fires burning in a ditch along the highway.

A few minutes later, crews were called to a grass fire burning in a shelter belt on 454th Avenue.

Crews began to extinguish the second fire when the land owner arrived and requested that they watch the fire and make it into a controlled burn.
