WATERTOWN, S.D.–Watertown Fire Rescue responded to more than 5,700 calls for service last year, or about 600 more calls than the year before.

Chief Don Rowland says there were almost 3,000 calls for ambulance services, and almost 800 fire calls last year.

Watertown Fire Rescue is responsible for covering nine townships in addition to the city.

As calls for service increase, so does talk of a new eastside fire station in Watertown.

Rowland says they envision a three stall, 10,000 square foot facility that remains part of Fire Rescue’s future vision…..

Rowland says last year, 78-percent of fire calls saw a response time of four minutes or less, and 87-percent of structure fires were contained to the room of origin.
