WATERTOWN, S.D.–Watertown Fire Rescue was dispatched to a house fire last night.

When they arrived at the home in the 1000-block of 2nd Avenue Southeast around 8:30, they saw thick dark smoke coming from the windows.

The family living there had escaped the home.

Fire crews used a thermal imaging camera to identify that the fire was coming from the basement.

The home sustained significant smoke damage.

Fire crews were on the scene for about two hours.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
