WATERTOWN, S.D.–Watertown Fire Rescue responded to a grass fire along Highway 81 south of Watertown shortly after 3:00 p.m. Thursday.

When they got there, crews found four separate areas of the west ditch burning.

Crews had the fires under control in less than five minutes.

The most likely cause of the fire would have been hot brakes from a passing truck and trailer as the spots were spaced out approximately 30 feet from each other.

Once the fire was out, crews drove to the Codington-Hamlin County line to ensure there were no more fires.
