WATERTOWN, S.D.–When the Watertown City Council meets tonight, don’t look for any decisions to be made on when, or how to build a new ice arena.

But this project, which has been in the discussion stages for years, is on the agenda and will be talked about again tonight.

Recently, there’s been the debate about the merits of adding one more sheet of ice onto the existing arena, versus building a brand new two sheet structure.

City Councilman Bruce Buhler….

A quality of life bond issue was passed by voters to fund three projects: a new wellness center, a new softball complex and a new ice arena.

Two of those have been done, but right now, the money is not there to get the ice arena built…

Estimates have put the price tag of a new two sheet ice arena in Watertown at more than $15 million.
