WATERTOWN, S.D.–The Watertown City Council could move forward tonight with a decision on whether to renovate and expand a former bank building into a new City Hall.
The council will consider staff’s recommendation to award Huff Construction of Aberdeen a $4.2 million bid to do the work on the former Wells Fargo building.
That bid came in nearly 16-percent below architect’s estimates of $5 million.
An expansion of the building is required in order to include city council chamber meeting space. The bid, if approved, would also include building an enclosure for the former bank’s teller canopy area, which would be converted into garage space.
Separately, the council will consider awarding a bid to Prairie Environmental Consulting for just under $32,000 to remove asbestos material from the bank building before remodeling would begin.
